HELP! HELP! HELP! - DONATIONS TO KEEP HUR HERALD AFLOAT |
(03/26/2025) |
Bob Weaver March, 2025 Facing numerous challenges over the years, the Hur Herald kicked off its 29th year in 2024, starting in 1996 with hard copies and then going to the Internet, discontinuing news coverage in 2021, but still continuing to do people and history stories, plus the massive archives still available. Albeit, the interest in history is at an all-time low. It has been a labor of love. The early edition said it was "A cheap, often unedited and sometimes misspelled epistle with shaky financial backing and poorly defined goals." Certainly a goal was to record the life and times of backwoods Calhoun County and to assemble a historical collection about the county, thousands of people and history tales, thousands of photographs. At one time the Herald had 40,000-50,000 distinct readers, most across America, while many were former citizens of the Mountain State, many were not, just folks who like to read about life in the backwoods We have continued to inform readers to copy stories and photos while the Herald is still online, with the archives being donated to Glenville State College. That readership began to fade drastically with the coming of social media, where each social media user is their own writer, editor, photographer and publisher. Currently we are seeking a few donations to keep the Herald going with on-line access, and some funds to cover our actual costs, which seems to be about $2,500 annually. Since the Herald no longer has a business license, donations to Bob Weaver, 7697 Pine Creek Road, Mt. Zion WV 26151. (OR) PayPal to dianne@hurherald.com Contact phone 304-354-6183. |
