THURSDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - CASES SPIKING IN CALHOUN - 1,264 New Cases, 50 Deaths

West Virginia crossed another grim milestone Thursday as 50 additional reported coronavirus-related deaths moved the state’s pandemic death total past 4,000.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources announced the latest deaths Thursday in a news release. West Virginia’s death total is now at 4,048.

Active cases jumped 201 cases and are at 9,904. Health officials said 1,264 cases were reported since the last update.

Hospitalizations were at 812 with 232 in intensive care and 170 on a ventilator.

The state’s cumulative positive test rate was at 6.04%, up slightly from 6.03%, while the daily positive test rate was at 8.99%, up slightly from 8.20%.
