SUNDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - 405 NEW CASES, CALHOUN HAD RECORD BREAKING 33 CASES LAST WEEK - Outbreak Reportedly Linked To Basketball Tournament

Health officials added 405 new positive cases for the day, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The state’s death toll during the pandemic remained at 2,726.

Calhoun has two new cases starting the week, after a record breaking 33 cases last week.

Two Calhoun schools have gone to remote learning following outbreaks.

A number of unofficial reports, some on Facebook, say that some Calhoun residents are seriously ill with COVID-19, some reportedly getting the disease at a recent basketball tournament, where Calhoun athletes, parents and students attended. This could not be confirmed.

West Virginia’s active case total increased slightly to 7,061. The daily positive test rate came in at 4.44% while the overall positive test rate remained at 5.14%.

As of Saturday, there were 246 people hospitalized with the virus, including 78 in intensive care and 34 people on ventilators.
