WE HONOR AND REMEMBER THE MCCUNE BOYS

TODAY ON THE HERALD WE HAVE THE "MCCUNE BOYS" By Bob Weaver In Appalachia, particularly when men don't marry, they still refer to them as "boys," even into their old age. Such was the case with the "McCune Boys." While acquainted with them in my early Calhoun days, it was not until returning to Calhoun in 1996 that I got to know them, visiting them for several years at their ancestral farm on Crooked Run. I am hopeful that Hur Herald readers will take time to peruse the stories about Bruce and Norv, and connect to them as people of place and their entrenched beliefs, habits that date back to the formation of the county in 1856. I told Norv that I would be doing a story with photos about their life and times for the Hur Herald on the internet, after which he stated, "What the hell is the internets." They were proud and grateful people, with an enriched skill to tell a story. I would hope that a small piece of their humanity rubbed off on me and will rub off on you.
