CABOT ACQUIRES CARBON BLACK FACTORY IN 1913 |

Carbon Factory Sold On the first day of May, a deal of very large proportion was consummated whereby Godfrey L. Cabot became the owner of the West Virginia Carbon Company's plant located about a mile below Grantsville. The consideration is said to be $50,000. Mr. Cabot will continue to run the plant at its present location and will no doubt materially increase its output, as he is equipped with a sufficient quantity of gas to keep the plant going at full capacity, and is endowed with a mentality that makes him easily the "Carbon King" of the world. Beside, Mr. Cabot will retain with the factory Mr. J.G. Oles, who built and has been its superintendent since its erection in 1902, and who is recognized as one of the best carbon black manufacturers in the world. Mr. Cabot is to be congratulated upon securing the services of Mr. Oles. The capacity of the new plant is about 1,100 lbs. Daily, and the quality of the black is said to be A-1. The old company composed principally of Pittsburg capitalists was a popular one, and the Chronicle regrets that they have quit the county, but under the new management all the laborers for the old company, we understand, will be retained, and as Mr. Cabot has always been well liked by his employees, we anticipate increased prosperity for all concerned. A second lamp black factory was built at Creston. |
