2013: ORMA POST OFFICE SHUTTERED AFTER 108 YEARS - Originally Called "Rilla" And "Fez"

(11/25/2024)
2013 - The Orma, Calhoun County Post Office was shuttered Thursday after a 108 year run.

Orma residents, who have had a post office in the area since shortly after the Civil War, originally called Rilla and Fez, was named after Orma Stalnaker in 1905.

The post office was one of thousands that have been targeted for closure, with the US Postal service continuing to lose billions of dollars annually.

Orma customers said they received a notification letter about the closure.

The closure was reportedly linked to an issue regarding the lease of the building.

Public meetings were held in 2011 regarding the pending closure of the Orma and Millstone Post Office.

The Millstone Post Office, which now operates 24 hours a week, is slated to be cut back to two hours of operation in September, 2014.
