Hur Election Brawl

Dear Editor,

I enjoyed reading the Hur Election Brawl. It happened a few years before I was born but I remember my Dad, Horace L. Haught, telling me about it.

Dad was interested in Calhoun politics. He sided with the Mollohan faction of the Democratic party. I loved West Virginia politics. I worked an election in Kanawha County as the Democratic commissioner. That was a memorable event.

My Dad use to tell me stories about the moonshiners and bootleggers who lived around Arnoldsburg.

A fascinating Calhouner he talked about was Lemuel Laughlin from over on Beech. Maybe some of the readers could help with a story about him.
