CALHOUN MAN CONTINUES TO SERVE - Milam Newest Member Of NC Fire Department

Mike Milam (L) and David Noble, Jr. (R) of Denver, North Carolina VFD

A former Calhoun resident Mike Milam has continued his interest in community service in Denver, North Carolina. Milam is the newest member of the Denver Volunteer Fire Department.

Milam moved to the area to work for ADT from Columbus, Ohio.

David Noble, Jr., a firemen and member of the department's board for 17 years, said Milam walked into the station one day. "I told him I had family in Grantsville, West Virginia," to his surprise. "I am the grandson of Velma McEndree, who just passed away, and a nephew of Glenn McEndree."

"Small world, isn't it," said Noble, who was excited to hear Milam was a former member of the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department and was an EMS for the Calhoun squad.

Milam is now an official member of the department. "He will make a great fireman for our organization," concluded Noble.

He is the son of Louis and Betty Milam of Barnes Run.
