IT'S JUST BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS GONE

(07/24/2002)

Dear Editor

Just wanted to send a note to thank you for continuing a great job with THE HUR HERALD. I particularly enjoyed your editorial referenced above this morning. In case you have not been blessed yet, I am sending the following -- (I heard reference to something like this on Public TV the other day and a friend sent it to me by e-mail recently.)

If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.
With Enron, you would have $16.50 of the original $1,000.00.
With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the stock) one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00.
Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Thanks again, Bob. Keep up the good work. It is great to read about Calhoun online. I lived there for almost 20 years and many of your stories are about people I knew or knew of.
