Speed Traps Answer To Financial Woe

Dear Editor,

Having driven through the Summersville area many times and witnessing the obvious abuse of law enforcement officers in writing citations I have often wondered about the legality of city law enforcement officers writing tickets on a federal or state highway.

I assume that there is a statute that gives them this right and if so I would like to suggest that the town of Grantsville solve its financial woes by extending it boundaries to cover some straight stretch of Rt 5 or if there is a straight stretch, on Rt 16 and set up speed traps and watch for out of county or state people and proceed to ticket them for any speed in excess of 1 mph over their mandated speed limit.

Have a good day
