Open Letter To Calhoun Residents From Miss Wood Festival

I was very honored to have won the title of the 2008 Miss Wood Festival Queen last Tuesday. I entered the pageant after hearing many nice things about Calhoun County, the Wood Festival, and the Wood Festival Staff. Everything I heard proved true for me during my stay, and I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome.

From my stay at the Best Western to standing in lines for all the good food at the festival, everyone was so gracious in extending a warm "Hello" and "Congratulations". Home Spun Fun was such an appropriate theme for the festival!

I especially enjoyed the Mud Bog and the wide variety of entertainment, as well as meeting and spending time with everyone. After learning about the history of the Wood Festival emblem, I was especially happy to get to meet Mr. Whipkey.

I was saddened to see the devastation caused by the flooding during the week, and my thoughts go out to all the people who were effected by the high water. The Wood Festival provided a much-needed break for those trying to recoup from their damages.

Our fairs and festivals help create an environment that makes West Virginia so special and inviting, and the Calhoun County Wood Festival is a wonderful example of why I am so proud of my state!
