"I hope he comes home safe"

(06/24/2005)

Dear Editor

As I was walking to the Folk Festival, I passed a kid wearing a brand spanking new army uniform. He must have gone directly from his high school graduation to the recruiting office. He looked proud. His parents are probably proud of him. I was proud of him. I'm glad I said hi.

My heart was heavy, though, when I thought of the more than seventeen hundred kids his age and not much older already dead because of George Bush's complete lack of character. The war in Iraq is not a defensive war; its sole purpose is to glorify Bush. George Bush wears religion on his sleeve to mask his moral bankruptcy.

I hope this kid does not have to go to Iraq, and if he goes, I hope he comes home safe. I also hope that George W. Bush is brought to justice for the more than seventeen hundred murders of which he is guilty.

Sincerely,

Hugh McGough
