1951 Accident Claims Life of CHS Athlete

Russell Gary White, 16 year old Calhoun high school student, was killed Wednesday afternoon near his home at White Pine when a shotgun accidentally discharged while he was hunting.

The youth was reported to have been crawling through a fence, dragging the shotgun after him, when the gun discharged the shot, striking him in the head.

The victim was a son of Royal and Alma Kelley White of White Pine. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Cherry Fork United Brethern church with the Rev. Oral Harmon officiating. Burial followed in the Kight cemetery. He was a member of the Calhoun High football squad and fellow team mates served as active and honorary pallbearers.
