Remember when you were in high school, and it seemed like every school you visited had
better facilities than dear old Calhoun High? Well, this is no longer true. The good people of
Calhoun County have managed to pass a bond levy and have constructed one of the finest
middle/high schools in the state.
Now comes the problem: School Building Authority funds cannot be used to complete athletic
facilities. However, this has not stopped the Calhoun community from attempting to complete
the best athletic facilities for students.
With donated equipment and hundreds of hours of donated labor, the community has
constructed a girls softball field, baseball, football/soccer, and practice football fields. This was
no small task, since it required moving 200,000 cubic yards of soil.
The Calhoun County Athletic Complex Committee is working hard to raise money to complete
the bleachers for the athletic fields. The projected goal is $170,000.
During the last eight months, the class of 1955 has donated over $3000 to the athletic
department. We now issue a challenge to all alumni classes of CHS to match or hopefully,
exceed this $3000 donation.
We need your help. Please do not lay this aside and say, "I'll take care of this later"...Do it
NOW. Get your checkbook, NOW and send a donation, NOW. Any amount will help. A dollar
will do, but $100 will do a lot more, $1000 would be fantastic.
Please indicate the year you graduated with your donation, so your class will receive proper
Any class donating $5000 or more will be designated an Honor Class, their class picture will be
so annotated. The class donating the most money, over $10,000, will be honored with a plaque
in Alumni Hall, or a banner in the gym, designating the class as the most Most Benevolent Class
of the Twentieth Century.
The Calhoun County Commission is desperately seeking businesses to move to the county and
provide jobs in the high unemployment area. Completion of the new athletic facility would be a
plus in convincing a company to locate in Calhoun.
