Glenville State College has hired Moorefield High School football coach Alan Fiddler as their new head football coach.

Fiddler accepted the position last week. He will be succeeding Paul Shaffner who recently accepted the head football coaching position at Buffalo State College in New York.

Coach Fiddler has built a perennial power house at Moorefield and will bring his winning ways to the Glenville State College athletic family.

Moorefield has won six of the past eight State Class A football championships, six of the past seven with Fiddler serving as the head coach.

"Coach Fiddler has a record as a winner as a player, an assistant coach and a head coach, and I am confident he will continue his winning ways at GSC", said GSC Athletic Director, Greg Bamberger.

GSC President Robert Freeman expressed his pleasure in the ability to acquire a coach with Alan Fiddler's credentials. "We are very pleased that Alan has accepted this position and we look forward to the future of GSC Football with great anticipation."

Fiddler was selected from a candidate pool that included Parkersburg South Head Coach Mike DeVol, and Tommy Reid, head coach at Union College (KY), after on campus interviews.

Coach Fiddler competed at Glenville State College as a quarterback from 1984 through 1987 under Head Coach Frank Vincent.
