Team Bon Jovi/West Virginia began it's WV Mountain Bike Association (WVMBA) Point Series Races at the Pipestem Challenge on April 4th. The team fielded 7 racers, and came up with FOUR 1st place wins: Bryan Fawley, Men's Expert, Steve Thaxton, Men's Expert Vet. Andrew Fetty, Men's Jr. Expert, and Cai Clothier, Men's Jr 14 and under. Other team members who were out for a jaunt through the woods on that cold and snowy Sunday were Men's Sport (26-35) rider Mike Haid, who placed 2nd in his class, Courtney Dudley, racing Women's Expert and placing 4th, and Clay Evans, racing Men's Expert, but did not finish due to mechanical problems.

Team Bon Jovi/West Virginia will next be seen at the MOUNTWOOD CHALLENGE this Sunday, at Mountwood Park in Waverly, WV. The race kicks off at noon, and is sure to be quite an event - Race and Park Director Craig Pyles always puts on an exemplary event, and this year should be no exception - especially since the weather sounds like it will cooperate with a mild and sunny day. So come out and support West Virginia's only national team!

The Mountwood Challenge also happens to the 1st leg of a 3 part series for the WVMBA Sport Rider Class Little Kanawha Triple Sport contest: In each WVMBA sport class for the Mountwood Challenge, The Tour De Lake, and the Appalachian Classic, the lowest combined times for each rider in each class will determine a cash winner in September.

The only sad thing about this year's Mountwood Challenge is that it may be Park Director Craig Pyles' last - in a series on seemingly ongoing events, the Wood County Park Commission has apparently not so legally suspended or terminated Pyles, and when that didn't hold up under the eyes of the law, the Commission reportedly has plans to abolish the Park Director position in a meeting to be held the day after the race. Observers can only guess as to motives on this one.

Team Bon Jovi/West Virginia is sponsored by Jon Bon Jovi (yes, the rock star!), Worldwide Chiropractic and Sports Medicine, Maple Creative, Charleston Bicycle Center, Kenda Tires, Cannondale, Pactimo, Fetty Intensive Training, Hydropak, and Kurve Socks.
