A Clarksburg man has broken the state weight record for a brook trout.

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources says Robert Anthony Starkey caught the 21-and-a-quarter inch, seven-point-six-pounder in Shavers Fork of the Cheat River in Randolph County on January 14th.

The previous weight record for a brook trout was a seven-point-one-nine pounder caught by Harmon Cozort in 1997.

The record for the longest brook trout has been held by Jack Foltz since 1981.

Starkey used Berkley Power Bait to lure his catch.
