West Virginia State Police said a man has been charged in a fatal shooting Wednesday in Clay County.
Cody Brooks Moore, 32 (left) of Ivydale is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Benjamin Laughlin, a former resident of Arnoldsburg and four time winner of the LKC wrestling championship from Calhoun High School. The shooting occurred about 3 p.m. on Wallback Road in Wallback/Valley Fork at the Darlene Morris residence,
according to a criminal complaint filed in Clay County Magistrate Court.
State Police responded to a home after a woman called and said someone had been shot at the Morris residence. A trooper found an unresponsive Laughlin inside the home who had been shot multiple times.
The complaint said a witness identified the shooter and said he was driving a pickup truck with an extended cab. Other officers and Clay County EMS secured the scene, and the trooper drove in the suspect’s last known direction of travel.
Clay County deputies reported that a vehicle matching the description was found in the Hansford Fork area, and they took Moore into custody.
The complaint said Moore was transported to the State Police Clay detachment for processing. State Police said after he was read his rights he told a trooper that he had shot the man multiple times.
Moore is currently being held at Central Regional Jail, charged with first degree murder. No bond was set.

UPDATE 11/05/2020 - West Virginia State Police said two men were in custody Wednesday after a fatal shooting at Wallback, Clay County.
State Police said a man was killed after a dispute broke out at a home. Several people were inside the residence when it happened. He was shot in the chest, the shooter fled the scene.
The suspected shooter and the man who was shot didn't know each other well but were familiar with each other, troopers said.
The incident happened off Wallback Road.

West Virginia State Police said they located a suspect vehicle in a shooting in Clay County.
Troopers said a man was shot in the chest. No condition was immediately available.
Dispatchers with 911 said the incident occurred in the Wallback area. The call came in about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.
State Police said the vehicle, a gray Chevy truck with a light bar on top, was found on Wallback Road.
