FRIDAY WV COVID-19: STATE CASES JUMP TO 382, HIGHEST DAILY NUMBER YET, CALHOUN COULD HAVE 10 OR MORE ACTIVE CASES

Six more COVID-19-related deaths were reported Friday in West Virginia, bringing the state’s death total associated with the virus to 376.

Two WV nurses died this week in Morgantown and Huntington.

According to the latest data posted by the WV DHHR, there are outbreaks in long-term care facilities in at least eight counties in north central West Virginia.

Department of Health and Human Resources officials also said 382 new virus cases were listed in the past 24 hours, the highest number of cases in a single day.

There appears to be one additional case for Calhoun, likely active cases 10 or more.

New active cases are continuing to spike in Calhoun, Roane, Clay and Gilmer, still listed in green, indicating the lowest risk.

At least three Roane schools have closed because or cases, or are making adjustments.

Jackson has 39 active, Wirt has 9 active and Ritchie has 6 active.

69 individuals have been asked to quarantine from Hurricane Middle School.

The state’s overall cumulative positive test rate has jumped to 2.79%. On Thursday, the state's cumulative positive test rate was at 2.77%.

The DHHR confirmed in a news release the deaths of a 64-year-old man from Cabell County, a 70-year-old woman from Logan County, a 65-year-old man from Wayne County, a 68-year-old woman from Jackson County and a 61-year-old woman from Fayette County.

Active cases also jumped 179 and were at 4,435.

Hospitalizations dropped by four and were at 164, with 57 in intensive care and 25 on a ventilator. Recoveries were up 197 and were at 12,896.
