THURSDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - Six Deaths, 202 New Cases

Six more COVID-19-related deaths were reported in West Virginia, including two in Kanawha County.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources in a news release Thursday confirmed the deaths of a 96-year-old woman from Mason County, a 62-year-old woman from Fayette County, a 72-year-old man from Fayette County, an 86-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 69-year-old woman from Kanawha County and an 89-year old male from Pleasants County.

Salem Fire Chief Rick Todd died this week of complications related to Covid 19.

West Virginia’s death total from the virus is now at 325.

Meanwhile, the number of new cases jumped by 202 and is now at a total of 14,706. Active cases increased 86 and were at 3,550.

The state’s cumulative positive rate continued to rise and was at 2.78%. The daily positive rate was at 4.11%.

Hospitalizations increased by 10 and were at 173, with 57 in intensive care and 30 on a ventilator. Recoveries were up 110 and were at 10,831.

Meanwhile, for the second straight day, no counties were listed in red on the DHHR's county alert map. Six counties were in orange - Putnam, Kanawha, Fayette, Wayne, Logan and Monongalia. Six counties were in gold - Jackson, Nicholas, Boone, Mingo, Wyoming and Summers.
