At 46%, West Virginia currently has the third lowest Census response rate, ahead of only Alaska and Puerto Rico.

Calhoun is among the worst responding counties. Wood is the best at 65% reporting.

West Virginia is facing several risks if the low participation continues: less money coming to the state means bad roads, less jobs and possibly losing a seat in Congress. If there is an under count in West Virginia, and another state has an accurate count and it's a growing state, the state could be at risk of losing congressional representation.

The lowest performing counties are in the south, including McDowell, Summers and Wyoming.
