| OPEN LETTER FROM CABOT RECYCLING
Due to personnel problems, falling market prices and equipment problems, Cabot Recycling Station has been closed since February 15.
During this time of closure the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority (CCSWA), which runs Cabot Recycling Station, has been working hard to re-open the facility.
Lisa Cooper has resigned her position on the CCSWA board of directors to take over as director of Cabot Recycling Station.
Lisa has been committed to recycling for 25 years, and 30 years of running two restaurants has given her the knowledge and experience necessary to run a business. Once she is trained on the specifics of running Cabot Recycling Station, she will be positioned to successfully take Calhoun County’s recycling program into the future.
The forklift at Cabot Recycling Station is the backbone of the operation, and it has had problems since last July. Repairs have been conducted as funds permit and it is almost operational.
As recently as March 9, we were aiming to re-open sometime in April. Although that is still our goal, the emergence of the Corona virus may interfere with that timeline.
Recycling is an essential service, so our three employees have been reporting for work, but if any of them develops symptoms, preparations will come to a standstill. Repairs to the forklift will proceed only as long as the companies supplying parts stay open and contract mechanics stay healthy.
Calhoun recyclers should be assured that Cabot Recycling Station will re-open. However, at this time we do not have a date specific. When Cabot Recycling Station does re-open it will be announced in the Calhoun Chronicle and the Hur Herald.
In the meantime, readers should know that the metals buyback program has been operating this entire time, and is still operating. Donations would help and are always welcome.
If you have aluminum cans and other nonferrous metals to sell, Cabot Recycling Station is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
