CALHOUN SCHOOLS: RETURNING GRADE 5 BACK TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS DROPPED - Primarily Over Financial Reasons

(03/20/2020)
A MESSAGE TO CALHOUN PARENTS/SCHOOL SUPPORTERS: SUPERINTENDENT WHYTSELL

Dear Calhoun County Schools Community,

I would like to thank each of you who attended community meetings, sent emails, called or stopped by to discuss considerations in moving fifth grade to the elementary schools.  I appreciate the comments, input, and research that went into making an informed decision.

We attentively considered facts regarding current occupancy at each location, staffing needs, certified teacher shortages, building designs and layout, scheduling options, the impact on the school system and students as a whole.  These facts, along with current/projected enrollment and the funding formulas do not favor the change as fiscally responsible.  Therefore, after thoughtful analysis of all factors, we have deemed that the move would not be prudent at this time.

I am proud and thankful for the continued support and dedication to our students over the past few years.  It is my sincere hope that together as a school system, student body, parents/guardians and community, that we can persist in our endeavors to provide limitless possibilities for our children.

Working together we do/will make a difference.

Sincerely,

Kelli Whytsell Kelli Whytsell Superintendent Calhoun County Schools
