| BECKLEY SHOOTING - A shooting near downtown Beckley left two people wounded Tuesday.
A report of shots fired was received by authorities at approximately 3 a.m. Officers responded to an apartment in the 1000 block of South Fayette Street and found the victims inside the residence.
Injuries to one of the victims were described by police as life-threatening. The other person was treated and released with injuries considered minor.
The identities of the victims were not released.
No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named.
Officers from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia University Institute of Technology Police Department are assisting Beckley Police in the investigation.
AX MURDER SCENE - A man has been charged with the murder of a woman in Oak Hill who the state medical examiner said died of blunt force trauma and strangulation, reported that an ax was found at the crime scene.
Hayden John Dixon, 28, of Oak Hill is charged with murder in the death of Trinity McCallister, 35, of Oak Hill, according to a news release from the Oak Hill Police Department.
McCallister was reported missing Nov. 11. Officers found her body Nov. 12 at the home where she and Dixon had been living.
Police said Dixon was arrested Nov. 13 on an unrelated felony. The state Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified the victim as McCallister Nov. 14.
Results from evidence sent to the State Police crime laboratory were returned Nov. 18 to the Oak Hill Police Department, and the murder warrant was served on Dixon, police said.
Jail records say Dixon is also charged in Fayette County with receiving and transferring stolen goods, simple possession, giving false information to law enforcement, driving on a suspended license and forgery. His bond is $75,000 on those charges.
The investigation continues. Additional charges are possible. |
