| A West Virginia teacher recently got a chance to spin the "Wheel" for a chance at some big bucks.
Amy Perkins, a Special Education teacher at Flatwoods Elementary School, appeared on the "Wheel of Fortune" in late January.
Perkins made it all the way to the show's bonus round and took home $17,150.
Perkins, who grew up watching the show with her family, had auditioned for the show in the past, but had not been selected. When the "Wheelmobile" came to the Mardi Gras Casino in Nitro, she tried out again, learning in a letter two week later that she had made it this time. Perkins was flown to California last December to tape the show.
Wheel of Fortune gets more than one million applications a year and chooses less than 600 to appear on air.
When the episode aired, Perkins held a watch party with family and friends.
Perkins, a 2005 Glenville State College graduate, hopes that her experience serves as an inspiration to her students. "I want them to know that anything they want to do, they can do," she said. |
