| The Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner will be held Saturday, August 18 at the Arnoldsburg Community Building. Lunch will be served at noon. The public is invited to come early and visit with fellow Veterans. The event is sponsored by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 5959.
Secretary of State Mac Warner will be a guest speaker at the event.
Secretary Warner is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He received his law degree from the West Virginia University School of Law School, and has two Master of Law degrees from the University of Virginia Law School.
During his 23-year career in the United States Army, Secretary Warner served on four continents, deploying to military hot spots around the world while also serving on the staff at the U.S. Army War College.
Secretary Warner served for five years with the U.S. State Department in Afghanistan.
Secretary Warner took his oath of office on January 16, 2017 becoming the 30th individual to hold that position. In addition to serving as the state's chief elections official, Secretary Warner also serves as the state's chief business registration and licensing official. As of July 1st of this year, more than 106,000 entities are registered to do business in West Virginia.
In just 18 months, Secretary Warner has become a leader within the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) in cybersecurity for election systems and voter databases.
Working with county clerks throughout West Virginia, his administration has cleaned up the state's voter registration lists by eliminating more than 100,000 deceased, duplicate, outdated and convicted felon voter files.
At the same time, he's worked closely with county clerks to register more than 64,000 new, real, "live" voters……and more than one-third of those new voters (22,518) are high school students.
And just last May in the Primary Election, Secretary Warner announced and deployed the NATION'S FIRST mobile voting solution for military personnel stationed all over the world - making it easier for those who are fighting to protect our right to vote….to vote themselves.
Secretary Warner is a sixth generation West Virginian.
He and his wife Debbie Law Warner have been married for 35 years, and they raised four children - all of whom are serving, or have served, in our Armed Forces.
