The roaring water on Calhoun's river and streams has the power to move large objects, including this giant log stuck on the Henry's Fork low water bridge, after a Saturday night of rain.

The location is on the West Fork of the Little Kanawha River, near what was once the Village of Rocksdale, the Henry's Fork road is a shortcut to Spencer.

A century or more ago rising water was used to raft logs downstream for sale from Grantsville and Arnoldsburg, a dangerous venture.

My great-great grandfather David Riggs met his maker on Barnes Run near the West Fork in 1859, trying to ride the raft.
