Early voting will begin in the Calhoun County Clerk’s office on Wednesday, April 25. The office will be open from 8:00 to 4:00 p.m. each day. Early voting will also be held in the County Clerk’s office on Saturday, April 28th and Saturday, May 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.|
According to WV Code §3-2-31, when it comes to voting, voters must vote in the precinct they have been assigned to unless one of the following exists:
* The voter has moved to an address within the same precinct, the voter affirms the change of address with his/her signature on the poll book and does NOT vote provisional.
* The voter has moved to an address within the county which is a new precinct. If the voter has not changed the address on his/her voter registration he/she must vote provisional at the precinct for their new address and affirm the change of address with his/her signature on the pol book. If it is found that this voter is registered in the county, the challenge is removed and the provisional ballot is counted.
* If the voter is a poll worker and is working out of his/her current precinct and did not vote early or absentee the voter can vote provisional in the precinct he/she is working at. Only the races/issues on the ballot that the voter is eligible to vote for are to be counted. Such as, if the poll worker is not a resident of a municipality on the ballot, then those races should not be counted.
Beginning January 1, 2018, voters must show a valid form of identification to vote in-person during an Early Voting period or on Election Day in any federal, state, municipal or special election. For more information, please see W. Va. Code § 3-1-34 or visit the Secretary of State’s website at sos.wv.gov
If you are unable to vote at your assigned voter precinct, voters are encouraged to either participate in early voting or vote an absentee ballot. Applications for absentee ballots will be accepted until May 2, 2018. Call the County Clerk’s office at 304-354-6725 to receive an application.
