FIRED SHOTS - Police in Putnam County arrested a Nitro man Tuesday after he allegedly fired several shots at a home with four people inside.

Christopher Ryan Thomas, 37, of Nitro, was charged with four felony counts of wanton endangerment after police said he opened fire from his black Nissan Xterra, according to a criminal complaint.

Nitro police received a call on Feb. 3 regarding a "drive-by shooting" on 39th Street East. A caller stated a man she knew as "Opie" drove to the house in his SUV and fired "several rounds," according to the complaint.

At the scene, Nitro police said a resident told them he could hear yelling outside while he was inside his home. The resident told police he went outside to see what going on, and said he saw "Opie" pointing a gun toward the home. The man told police he believed "Opie" fired about seven shots toward where he was standing on the porch.

The man told police several shots hit the house.

Nitro police said they were familiar with "Opie," many involving shots fired calls.

Police found four spent .40-caliber shell casings on the road next to the home. They also found what appeared to be three bullet holes in the area where the resident told police Thomas had fired toward near the porch, according to the complaint.

DUNBAR STABBING - A man was released from the hospital and booked into jail on Tuesday, a day after he allegedly broke into a Dunbar home and got stabbed.

Jeffrey Jim Melton, 29, first visited the house on 24th Street at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, according to a criminal complaint.

A woman locked herself in a bedroom as Melton entered the house, according to the complaint. The woman later told police that Melton was "obsessed" with her, and that he was "texting and calling her all the time."

Melton, of Charleston, allegedly punched the door until it broke. He then walked into the living room and broke a light, according to the complaint.

The woman threatened to call 911 just before Melton left, the complaint states, but he allegedly returned to the woman's home about two hours later.

She and her boyfriend spotted Melton as he approached the house and, according to the complaint, the boyfriend confronted Melton at the front door.

Melton allegedly stood behind the locked door as the boyfriend told him to leave. Melton then broke off a glass portion of the door before he forced his way inside the house, the complaint states.

He allegedly choked the boyfriend, who then stabbed Melton several times.
