ADULT EDUCATION

FREE - The High School Equivalency Test is still free in West Virginia. However, you do need to pass a Practice Test first. Call 304-354-6151 Extension 106 to schedule a test or just come in to an Adult Basic Education class. Calhoun County classes are held at the Career Center on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30-3:30 and Wednesday from 4-6 and Gilmer County classes are at St. Marks Church on Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6. There are also Distance Ed classes available through Arnoldsburg Elementary. Don’t wait. Call now.

WIC NUTRITION PROGRAM

The Women, Infants, and Children [WIC] Nutrition Program is a supplemental foods program for pregnant, post-partum, or breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to the age of five. WIC provides food, breastfeeding support and nutrition education to families in Calhoun County. To apply for the WIC Program or to receive more information call the local office at 304-354-6898 or the main office in Parkersburg at 304-428-3688. WIC Clinic is at 186 Hospital Drive Building 2, Suite 3, Grantsville each Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

PLEASANT HILL SCHOOL PARENT-CHILD GROUP

Each Friday beginning a 2 p.m. The focus of these groups will be Kindergarten Readiness Skills for children 3 to 5 years old, but all ages birth to 5 years are welcome to attend. Come out and join in on all the fun we have each week. Snacks are alway provided! Ann one lucky parent will be drawn to receive a prize. GIVE A CHILD THE GIFT OF HOPE THIS CHRISTMAS – Become a CASA [Court Appointed Special Advocates] is looking for volunteers to be the voice for abused and neglected children in Calhoun County. To learn more, come to the Calhoun County Committee on Aging-Senior Center in Grantsville, at 10:30 am on Friday, December 28, to hear Volunteer Supervisor Alison Gerlach speak about what CASA does and how to become a Volunteer. Or, please come to the Calhoun County Library at noon on Friday, December 28 for an Informational Meeting for anyone interested in volunteering. Can’t make either event? SUICIDE SUPPORT GROUP MEETING - Will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5th at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 335 Church Street, Spencer, WV on from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A light lunch will be provided. The group meeting is for anyone who has been affected by suicide, which includes, loss of a child, parent, spouse, partner, sibling, relative or friend. Also for those personally struggling, loved ones struggling or because you support suicide prevention. This group is open, which means new members may join at any time, just show up. No pre-registration is needed, there is no cost to attend. ROSEDALE SENIOR CENTER CHRISTMAS DINNER - Wednesday, December 19 beginning at 12-noon. Each year, after dinner, the center has a “Yankee Swap” Gift Exchange for anyone who wishes to participate. This “Swap” always provides a good natured fun time for all. A gift costing between $5 and $10 will be sufficient. You are cordially invited to come out and celebrate the Holiday Season.

BIG OTTER COMMUNITY CENTER MUSIC - Every Friday doors open at 4:30 pm, music begins at 7:00 through 10:00 pm. Come have a hillbilly hotdog with chili and cole slaw some homemade dessert and visit with your neighbors before being entertained with Ole Country, Bluegrass and sometimes a little Rock and Roll.
