FREE - The High School Equivalency Test is still free in West Virginia. However, you do need to pass a Practice Test first. Call 304-354-6151 Extension 106 to schedule a test or just come in to an Adult Basic Education class. Calhoun County classes are held at the Career Center on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30-3:30 and Wednesday from 4-6 and Gilmer County classes are at St. Marks Church on Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6. There are also Distance Ed classes available through Arnoldsburg Elementary. Don’t wait. Call now.

WIC NUTRITION PROGRAM

The Women, Infants, and Children [WIC] Nutrition Program is a supplemental foods program for pregnant, post-partum, or breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to the age of five. WIC provides food, breastfeeding support and nutrition education to families in Calhoun County. To apply for the WIC Program or to receive more information call the local office at 304-354-6898 or the main office in Parkersburg at 304-428-3688. WIC Clinic is at 186 Hospital Drive Building 2, Suite 3, Grantsville each Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

SAVE THE CHILDREN-PARENT CHILD GROUPS
ARNOLDSBURG AND PLEASANT HILL SCHOOLS

Save the Children has an exciting opportunity for children and families in Calhoun County. We are offering weekly Parent Child Groups at Pleasant Hill Elementary School and Arnoldsburg Elementary School, starting every Friday at 2:00 p.m. The focus of these groups will be Kindergarten Readiness Skills for children 3 to 5 years old, but all younger siblings are also welcome to attend. Snacks will also be provided.

During the weekly Parent Child Groups, we will be exploring the following Language, Literacy and Math Kindergarten Readiness skill areas: Knowing about the alphabet, books and print; talking and listening; understanding words and sounds; numbers, counting, patterns, sorting and classification; comparison, measurement and geometry. These are all critical skills that your child needs in order to be prepared for Preschool and Kindergarten. We look forward to meeting you and helping prepare your child for school success.

TAKING ORDERS NOW FOR THE
ANNUAL BERRY AND PLANT SALE

Gilmer County Farm Bureau and WVU Extension Service - Gilmer and Calhoun County will once again be placing a bulk order for Spring Plants and Berries. The spring plants and berries that are available this year will be strawberries, blackberries, raspberries (both red and black), and blueberries.

We will also be offering asparagus roots and rhubarb crowns. If you would like to improve your garden by adding one or more of these berry plants contact the WVU Extension Service - Gilmer and Calhoun County respectively at 304-462-7061 or 304-354-6332, and we will mail you an order form. You may also email dmfryman@mail.wvu.edu for a copy of the order form. Orders and payment is due by Thursday, February 28, 2019, at the close of business, 4:00 p.m.

Once plants arrive all participants will be called and plants will need to be picked up within 5 days. Plant will be available to be picked up in Gilmer and Calhoun County, at the WVU Extension Office. Expect plants to arrive the second or third week of April. Do not miss out on this opportunity to add some fresh berries and perennial vegetable plants to your future family meals.

VALENTINE'S DANCE - Arnoldsburg Elementary's Fourth Grade Class will be hosting a Valentine's Dance on February 15th from 5-7 p.m. All proceeds will go for their End-of-Year field trip. Admission is $5 a person or $15 for a family of 3 or more. Cost of games and photo booth are included with admission cost. There will be games, activities, and concessions.

SPAGHETTI DINNER FUNDRAISER - Saturday, February 16th 6-8 p.m. The Little Kanawha Valley Christian School students will be holding a spaghetti dinner to raise money for their Spring Trip to Colonial Williamsburg VA, at the school located at 6377 W Little Kanawha Hwy Big Bend, West Virginia. The dinner will include salad, spaghetti and sauce, bread, drink and dessert for $10. Students will be seating and serving. Please come out to support the students!

GILMER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE MEETING - The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Gilmer County Ambulance Service Authority Board is scheduled for Thursday March 14th at 5 pm. The meeting will be held at the EMS building at 230 West Main Street in Glenville. The meeting in open to the public.

SATURDAY APRIL 6

BAND BOOSTERS SPRING CAR, VENDOR-CRAFT SHOW AND BINGO! - Saturday, April 6th - Calhoun Middle High School Band Boosters will be hosting a Car Show, Vendor-Craft Show, and Bingo at Calhoun Middle High School. The Vendor-Craft Show will open at 9:00 am, the Car Show at noon, and the Bingo at 2:00 pm. Concessions will be provided by the Band Boosters. More details and registration forms will be available soon, but for now, mark your calendar for Saturday, April 6th.

TWO RUNS 4-H SPRING JAMBOREE - April 6th from 12-6 p.m. at the Two Runs Community Building in Palestine, WV. There will be concessions and a goodie/cake walk all day. There will also be a bucket auction, baked goods auction, corn hole tournament, live entertainment and the drawing for the gun raffle. Corn hole and entertainment pending weather. Come out for a fun event to help support the Two Runs Willing Workers 4-H Club.
