FLU PEAKING IN MOUNTAIN STATE

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 30 children have died as a result of the flu this season. No flu-related deaths have been reported in West Virginia this season.

Some WV hospitals a filled with flu-like illnesses.

According to the CDC, all states except Hawaii are reporting widespread flu activity.

Widespread is defined as "outbreaks of influenza or increases in ILI cases and recent laboratory confirmed influenza in at least half the regions of the state with recent laboratory evidence of influenza in the state."

West Virginia reports much higher levels in past weeks, and is expected to peak in about two weeks.

Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent getting sick.

Health officials advise washing hands often, getting plenty of rest, keeping surfaces clean and sanitized and avoid touching your face to prevent the spread of the flu.
