The late World War II vet Laymon Junior Godfrey of Grantsville got his medals in 2002, 57 years after the war was over, saying "I do remember the cold feet, wet back and c-rations. I remember riding behind in an ammo truck and seeing the Sergeant's arm, sticking from a truck window, being shot off by a 20mm. There were times dust popped on my pant-legs from gunfire. I remember that well."
