Transcribed by Norma Knotts Shaffer from microfilm of the Calhoun Chronicle dated 9/7/1909.

A.J. Coleman, a guard from the penitentiary, arrived here Tuesday evening and left Wednesday morning taking with him John Lowers, who was convicted of attempted rape and sentenced to one year in the penitentiary at the recent term of circuit court.

As Lowers is 72 years of age and claims to be in poor health, his sentence may mean the balance of his life.  He is Calhoun county's third representative in the big institution at Moundsville, Bub McCrosky and Lewis Hendricks, who were given life terms for the murder of Henry Blackshere about four years ago, are the other two.
