COUNTY'S OLDEST STANDING BIRDHOUSE ON BARNES RUN

(12/01/2025)

2013- This bird house for housing
Pigeons (or it could have been Martins) was likely the oldest standing bird house in the county, at least 90 years old
on the homestead of Albert
and Sadie Scott Ball on Barnes Run, now owned by Bennie Whytsell. Ball's grandson, Albert, when he was hitting 90 years old, says "Grandpa seemed to think of these pigeons as pets, liked to hear them. In the evening I remember the chorus of cooing as these pigeons settled in for the night." (In 2017, the decaying bird house was removed)
