Mary Helen Hupp,70, died of cancer and pneumonia
Monday, December 1, 2003, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C. She
was a retired retail manager and business-owner.
Born Mary Helen Underwood of Cannonsburg, Pa., she graduated from
Calhoun County High School, later moving to Parkersburg. While in
Parkersburg in the 1960s, she founded and operated the Happy Time Child
Day Care Center, the only one of its kind in the area. In the 1970s, she
worked for West Central Community Action Association, helping to develop
its Head Start program. During the 1980s, she lived in Wilmington, N.C.,
and managed the Hallmark store in Independence Mall.
She is survived by two sons, Chuck and Woody; three daughters, Nancy,
Susan and Ramona; four sisters, Nancy Newton, Janice Hinzman, Deloris
Brown and Rachel Carr; and six grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Richard M. Roach Funeral
Home, Gassaway, W.Va. Burial will be in the K of P Cemetery, Burnsville,
W.Va.
