NATURAL GAS SERVICE OFF NEAR GRANTSVILLE - Allegheny Power Working On Problem

(12/04/2003)
A natural gas outage began about 7 p.m. Wednesday in an area close to Grantsville.

Allegheny Power workers have responded to the problem, attempting to restore service to an unknown number of residences and businesses.

Grantsville Police Chief Ron Gordon said he was unaware of problems in Grantsville proper.

Power company spokesperson Tara Curtis said too much nitrogen had entered the system, and workers were "purging the lines" in an effort to restore service.

The Hur Herald heard reports that gas was off or pressure had diminished on Town Hill Road, Vaughan Road and areas of Pleasant Hill.

Bramblewood Apartments are heated by electricity.

Curtis said there appears to be problems with the gas pressure in the general area, but she was unable to report on the number of customers without gas and the exact area where the problem exists.

The area is facing dropping temperatures tonight.

Curtis said every effort is being made to restore service.
