The Calhoun County Adult Education class meets every Monday and Tuesday from 2:00-9:00 p.m. at the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center. These classes are free and open to any interested member of the public. They provide assistance with preparing for the GED (General Equivalency Diploma) exam, as well as helping "brush-up" on basic skills such as reading, writing, and math.
Registration for the class is always held on the first Monday of the month, which will be December 1st this month. Students who are already registered and attending class should not attend this session. It is for new students only. The registration process includes orientation, filling out forms, and doing an assessment to determine a student's beginning levels of skill. The process takes about four hours. For more information on the class, please contact Shelly Allen at the Career Center, 354-6151.
GED examinations are given once per month at the Career Center. Registration for the exam is required at least one week in advance of the exam date and can be done at the Center. The testing fee is $50 and is required on the first day of testing. The exams are given over a period of two days, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at approximately 2:30 p.m. The timed tests include the areas of reading, essay writing, social studies, science, and mathematics. Anyone wishing to take the GED exam should contact David White at the Career Center, 354-6151.
