West Virginia's hunting season for buck deer barely opened when nature dealt a
blow to much of West Virginia.
Whatever the reason, the buck kill is still down in Calhoun, according to some of
the check-in stations.
A really big buck was killed on the Fork yesterday by Richard Perkins of Chloe,
according to Rick's Place, where the 18-point buck was checked.
Officials with the state Division of Natural Resources say a hunter shot himself in the foot while hunting in Roane County.
Rain, sleet and snow swept across part of the state Monday, putting a damper on
more than 350,000 hunters' hopes of bagging a buck.
Calhoun's grocery, convenience stores, and restaurants have been packed with
out-of-state hunters.
