When Greg White left Marshall University Glenville State College came up a big winner.
Why?
Because Marcus Davis, who was all set to go to Marshall, got lost in the shuffle when the Thundering Herd changed coaches
with Ron Jirsa replacing White, who went to the University of Charleston. When that happened Davis, a two-time all-state
basketball player, decided to accept GSC's offer.
"He just wanted to get it over with and play basketball," said his father and Calhoun High School basketball coach Tim Davis.
"And Glenville is a good choice. But I have selfish reasons since it is so close I can drive to all the games."
The Pioneers of Ron Hankinson were in a rebuilding year last season and finished around the .500 mark. This season is
Hankinson's first full recruiting year and the one player he went after early was Davis.
That's because Davis has been a force for the past two seasons, averaging more than 20 points a game both years and
making first team Class AA All-State. He is also a two-time first team all-LKC basketball and football player.
According to the elder Davis, his son has attracted a great amount of interest as a football linebacker but he chose to play
basketball at the college level.
"That's where his heart is," Davis said. "It was his choice and I know that's what he wanted to do."
By going to GSC, the younger Davis will be following in his father's footsteps once more. His father was a multiyear all-state
player in basketball before playing at GSC.
Davis will be on full scholarship with the Pioneers. |
