"Y Mart" at Arnoldsburg surrounded by water by mid-afternoon
High water is creating problems in southern Calhoun this afternoon. The West Fork of the Little Kanawha has closed Route 16 south at several locations between Arnoldsburg and Stinson. Water is now covering U. S. 33-119 near the "Y" at Arnoldsburg.
The bridge across Millstone at the "Y" is completely covered and water is about three feet high on the "Y Mart" convenience store.
Mrs. Danny McKown, who lives near the Brannon Straight (Rt. 16) said the water has been this high once before in the past 24 years. Kenneth Berdine's garage on Rt. 16 at Crummie's Creek has about two feet of water. Berdine and several of his friends have been attempting to remove antique cars from the building.

The Arnoldsburg Volunteer Fire Department were removing people from residences in Arnoldsburg at 3 p.m.
The Upper West Fork VFD is closed off by water and Calhoun's EMS sub-station at Minnora is lodged between high water.
A transformer reportedly exploded in Grantsville this afternoon, causing parts of the town to lose electricity. Calhoun Banks closed the main and drive-in bank for lack of power. The Senior Citizens Center was without electric, among other businesses and homes.
There is minimal flooding in northern Calhoun, although the Little Kanawha River is rising. |
