The Calhoun school system is hopeful they will get a piece of the $170 million School Building Authority pie.
Calhoun made their sales pitch first thing Monday morning, one of 44 county school systems across the state asking for
funding for needed projects.
Helen Whitehair, the Superintendent of Fayette County wants a brand new Oak Hill Elementary School. They need $7
million from the SBA to make that project a reality.
Calhoun County asked for $1.2 million for an addition and upgrades to Arnoldsburg Elementary School.
School administrator Donnie Pitts said Calhoun had ten minutes to try and convince the SBA that the Arnoldsburg project
is important.
The SBA has a record amount of money for projects this year. Usually they have about $50 million.
The winners will be announced in December. |
