Many people think of shots or immunizations as kid's stuff, but infections, viruses and diseases have no age limits. Adults need protection, too.

If you have diabetes, the flu can be more than just aches and pain. A flu shot could save your life.

Diabetes can make the immune system weak.

You are less able to fight a bad case of the flu so you can be sick for much longer. People with diabetes are six times more likely to be hospitalized because of flu, and almost three times more likely to die because of flu or pneumonia.

When you live with diabetes, you should watch your diet, exercise, and see your doctor regularly. The flu season is here, so you should also add getting an annual flu shot to your routine.

It's one more way to stay in control of your diabetes. Ask your health care provider about getting a pneumococcal pneumonia shot.

Medicare Part B pays for both pneumonia and flu shots.

Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center is offering flu and pneumococcal pneumonia shots during regular clinic hours while supplies last. For more information, call 354-9244.
