Two men died when their car struck a tree on Munday-Brohard Road early Sunday
morning.
The Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department worked for well over an hour extracting
the victims from the tangled wreckage.
The tree was a few feet below the roadway, along a creek.
Firemen used Jaws of Life and saws to remove the occupants, after the vehicle
was pulled back on the highway by Mason's Towing of Elizabeth.
Wirt County Deputy Sheriff Peck said he believed the men were from Wirt County, with at
least one living in the immediate area.
The names of the deceased are being withheld, pending notification of next of
kin.
Calhoun EMS dispatched two ambulances to the scene at 12:20 a.m. A person not
in the accident, reportedly a relative of one of the deceased men, was taken to a
Parkersburg hospital suffering from chest pains.
Sources at the scene said the vehicle was traveling north toward Brohard on
county Route 51, about one and one-half miles from Munday.
