Hazel V. Collins Knotts, 91, formerly of Steer Creek Community, Stumptown, West Virginia, died Friday, November 7, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Grantsville after a lengthy illness.
She was born at Index, Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Harley B. and Ruth Stump Collins. She had worked as a private dressmaker in Grantsville, and was later employed by Rubber Fabricators. She was a member of the Rush Run Baptist Church, Stumptown, and was active in church activities. She was member of the Calhoun Historical Society as well as the Rush Run Homemaker's Club.
Surviving are two sons, James Earl Knotts of Mineral Wells, WV and Thomas Mark Knotts of Corning, New York; one daughter, Norma Knotts Shaffer of Grantsville; two sisters, Eva Collins Knotts of Springfield, Ohio and Zella Collins Leitch of Hinckley, Ohio.
Also seven grandchildren, Sharon Lynn Shaffer, Norma Jean Shaffer Schroader, Carol Anne Shaffer Myers, Roberta Jo Shaffer McKee, Aleacia Jolette Knotts Peer, Christopher Jay Knotts and Adam Brett Knotts; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Knotts, Jr. whom she married in 1935; three sisters, Atha Collins Smith Sayre, Ethel Collins Brown and Olive Collins Price Sanger; one brother, Elbert "Buck" Collins, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November, 10 at 2 p.m. at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Interment will be in the Knotts Cemetery at Orma.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Grantsville VFD New Truck Fund.
