October was the designated month for Arnoldsburg Elementary GLAD Day (Grade
Level Activity Day). Every Thursday throughout the month of October was
assigned a specific grade level (K-4).
Parents were provided the opportunity to visit the school to learn about various
programs provided and to learn about their children's classroom teachers'
expectations.
The parents were welcomed by Mrs. Tetrick who also presented a test
interpretation orientation.
Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Webb introduced the Title I program and provided various
reading strategies and home activities appropriate for each grade level.
Mrs. Lisa Groves and Mrs. Patsy Kisner, from the Parent Educator Resource
Center, were available for sessions in which they discussed resources available for
parenting. Mrs. Conley and Mrs. Nemitz contributed computer knowledge and
web sites to enhance student learning. Mr. Westfall explained the Presidential
Fitness program and each grade level homeroom teacher expressed the classroom
expectations for the students and parents.
The GLAD Day ended with parents enjoying lunch with their children.
According to the evaluations parents filled out at the end of their day, the GLAD
Day was successful. Parents found the activities useful and informative. We would
like to thank all of the parents for their participation in and support of this
endeavor.
