After the Bush administration cut the Appalachian Regional Commission's funds in half,
House and Senate lawmakers agreed yesterday to spend 66 million dollars on the ARC next year.
ARC chairwoman Anne Pope, a Bush appointee, had been on Capitol Hill making the case for more money. That's a little
unusual for agency heads, who generally toe the administration line.
The ARC provides federal money to help pay for projects such as job training and improvements to water and sewer lines.
The ARC region includes all of West Virginia and parts of 12 other states.
