Auto went into Little Kanawha River Tuesday night
Diver Craig Gherke attached cable to sunken vehicle
The Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department, Furr's Wrecker Service and volunteers
removed a late model Ford Focus from the Little Kanawha River yesterday
afternoon in which Grantsville resident Dustin McCormick, 22, lost his life earlier
this week.
Emergency personnel had delayed the removal of the auto because water was up
in the river, and was moving swiftly.
Grantsville VFD Chief said the car had floated down the river about 175 yards.
Diver Craig Gherke attached a cable to the sunken vehicle, which allowed Furr's
Wrecker Service to pull the auto to the bank and up the hillside to Route 5.
State Trooper Sgt. Darin Campbell, who is assisting in the investigation of the
accident, put a hold on the vehicle.
Funeral services will be held at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville at 2 p.m. today
for Dustin McCormick. Rev. Carroll McCauley will officiate. Interment will be in
Yoak Cemetery on Norman Ridge. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from
noon until the hour of service.
