Helen Murdock Carper, 70, of Clay, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at home after a short illness.
She was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Clay County, a daughter of the late Patrick O'Dell and Elizabeth Runnion O'Dell Mullins.
She was a homemaker and a mother. She was a member of the Flat Fork Baptist Church, Looneyville, W.Va., and attended the Clay Community Center.
Survivors include sons, Tommy Murdock of Elkview, Roger Carper of Clay, Ricky Carper of Baltimore, Md., Benny Carper of Clover, W.Va., and Johnny Carper of Looneyville; daughters, Carolyn Bowen of Odenton, Md., Sandra Caselle of Syracuse, N.Y., Jackie Kelly of Tariff, W.Va., and Lisa Hickman of Spencer, W.Va.; sisters, Ellen Abbott Cobb of Clay and Marlene Vineyard of Arnoldsburg, W.Va.; brothers, Paul O'Dell of Hagerstown, Md., Eugene O'Dell of Tariff and Junior O'Dell of Walton; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Murdock; her second husband of 43 years, Bobby Benton Carper; great-grandson, Tay Greene; brothers, William and Leon O'Dell.
A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer with the Rev. Wayne McGlothlin officiating. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
