Calhoun native, Jean "Bertha" Shock Cromley, is a woman with a mission. "My goal
is to come back to Calhoun and make a difference in the community," she said.
Monday she presented a $5,000 scholarship to allow new Deputy Sheriff Charlie
Richards attend West Virginia State Police Academy.
Richards is anticipating on entering the State Police Academy in January.
Sheriff Allen Parsons and Deputy Richards said "We are very grateful to Jean for
this help." Her scholarship will pay for tuition, wages, clothing and expenses "This
will make it possible to get the training," said Deputy Richards.
Cromley, a resident of Fort Myers, Florida, is the daughter of the late Willard and
Lucille Roberts Shock of Calhoun, who both died of cancer.
Since retiring seven years ago from General Electric, she has spent much of her
time helping cancer victims. She is the owner of Panache Total Image, which
specializes in wigs for people who lose their hair, to illness.
Cromley is in the process of organizing a group of former Calhoun residents who
want to help with projects in the county. She said the announcement will be made

She has three brothers, Bill, Jack, and Larry Shock, and three sisters, Judy Morton,
JoAnn Shock and Tammy Moore. Cromley is a graduate of Calhoun High School.
