Annually the Consumer Education Outreach Service hosts a balloon launch in
remembrance of cancer survivors and those who died in the fight against
cancer.
Last year on October 7, 2002 when the balloons were launched, a special note was
sealed in plastic and went with each balloon as it soared skyward. The note told
what the balloon represented and that it had been launched in Elizabeth, West
Virginia.
For a year, there was no news. However, the week the 2003 balloons were
launched, Pauline Lockhart, CEOS Breast Cancer Awareness Day Coordinator for
Wirt County received a special letter in the mail.
The letter was from Prudent Robiehaud of Point Fapin, New Brunswick,
Canada. Prudent had found the balloon hundreds of miles from Elizabeth, West
Virginia, in Canada. It was a pleasant surprise to know that the message of good
health had traveled so far.
Needless to say, another letter and package was sent back to Prudent sharing not
only thanks but also sharing friendship between Elizabeth, WV and Pointe Fapin,
New Brunswick. - Submitted by Harriett Dial |
